What is it on the hand...?
Emile Bell was made to honor the King, SeongDeok.
Making a big bell was so difficult that a grotesque way, to put a child into a boiling pot,
  was introduced.

Emile Story
King GyeongDeok of the Silla Kingdom dispatched monks to get donations from folks to finanace the making of the Sacred Bell of the Great King SeongDeok. One day, a woman holding a baby whined to one of the monks by saying, "I have nothing to donate but this baby." Following repeated failures in casting, a fortuneteller was consulted and he told that it was because of the blasphemy commited by the woman who held a baby. So the baby was donated, as the mother inadvertently said, and sacrificed to the making. When the completed bell was rung, it sounded like 'emile(meaning 'because of mother')'. Among folks, the bell was since then called 'Emile Bell'. This is sheer a legend, not veritable anyhow.
And there were harsh disputes in putting the baby into the furnace.
